Good Shepherd offers many opportunities to participate in our worship and service ministries. The table below lists service areas, their purpose, time requirements, and the related responsibilities. If you are interested in participating in these areas, please contact the committee leaders, the pastor, the church office, the Parish Life Associate or the Volunteer Coordinator. We are grateful for the opportunity to use our time and talents in the service of our mission.

Assisting Minister |

Assist pastor in worship. Open to anyone above confirmation age. Training given. |

Children's Activity Leader |
Supervise a special activity for pre-school children during the sermon at 8 & 11 a.m. |
20 minutes a Sunday 3-4 times a year |
Lead an activity for young children up to 2nd grade. Materials provided. |

Children's Sermon |
To present the Gospel to children in a 3-5 minute sermon |
Preparation and time for sermon 5-6 times a year |

Choirs |
To lead the congregation in liturgical singing and participate in community concerts |

Greet worshipers, distribute bulletins, seat late comers, assist with communion and offering, set tape recorder. |
6-8 Sundays a year |
Anyone confirmation age or older. Training given. |

Wedding Coordinators |
Help to coordinate weddings. |

Christian Ed Committee |
Planning, scheduling and implementing congregation's educational program for all ages. |

Oversee Sunday Church School, intergenerational events and all other educational events. |

Confirmation Mentor |

Adult SCS Teacher |
6-week mini-courses in Bible, theology, church history, or contemporary issues. |

Youth Ministry Committee |

New Member Sponsor |
To provide new members with a contact in the church and help them get oriented, if needed. |
One Sunday morning and one or two follow up contacts in the following year. |
Call incoming new member prior to joining church and attend new member's reception. Follow up to see how new members are doing. |

Fellowship Committee |
To provide opportunities for church family to gather for fellowship. |
Small amount of baking periodically for coffee hours, dinners, and serving. |
Coffee hours once a month, plus annual congregation luncheon, Maundy Thursday dinner, church picnic, and stewardship dinner. |

Quilting |
To make quilts for Lutheran World Relief |
Two times a month. |
Two mornings a month to help piece, sew, and hang the quilts. |

Butterfly Group |
To provide fellowship for widowed or single women. |
Occasional outings. |
Enjoying fellowship with one another. |

Adult Fellowship |
To provide a social time and Christian fellowship to all adults of Good Shepherd. |
One meeting per year, time to plan two events. |
Each member of task force will be asked to help plan and implement two events. |

Lunch Bunch |
To provide a time of Christian fellowship for those members aged 55+ |
One lunch per month. |
|
|
Women of the ELCA |
To gather as a community of women to grow in faith, affirm their gifts, support one another in their callings, and engage in ministry and action. |
Meeting once a month; craft night once a month to work on service projects. |
Serve as hostess or present program or prepare devotions for a monthly meeting approximately once a year. Help work on various service projects throughout the year. |

Finance Committee |
To oversee the financial affairs of the congregation. |
One meeting per month. |

|
Health Ministry Committee |
To empower its members to increasingly assume the responsibility for their own holistic health and to promote their well-being. |

Maintain Health Ministry bulletin board, write articles for The Voice, continue to monitor County Police Senior Roll Call Program, to act as an advisory board for the Parish Nurse, and work on planning programs within the congregation. |

Teller |
Count the money after Sunday services. |

Financial Secretary |
To do entries into computer/maintain financial programs. |

Planning Committee |

Stewardship Committee |
To plan, direct, and control the year round stewardship activities at Good Shepherd and to conduct the annual Every Member Response campaign to obtain member support for the church of their time, talent, and treasure. |
One meeting per month, plus special activities as required. |
Attend committee meetings and contribute ideas, energy and time to planning, organizing, and directing the Stewardship Committee activities. |

Archivist |
To maintain records of the church's history. |

The Voice |
To help prepare the monthly newsletter for mailing. |

Fold, staple, and prepare bulk mailing for the church's monthly newsletter. |

Office help |
To assist in the church office with telephone answering, typing, filing, UPS and postal mailings. |

|
Social Ministry Committee |
Function as the congregation's representative in reaching out to those who are victims of poverty and injustice in the local area and throughout the world. |
One meeting per month. |
Committee tries to understand the needs and problems of our community and develop programs so our congregation can respond to those needs. Serve on LCS and Hilltop Boards. |

Visitation |
Provide a ministry to members who are ill or homebound. |
As needed. |
Make a visit to a person identified by the church office. |

Shepherds |
Provide a ministry to members who are ill or homebound. |
One visit per month, five meetings per year. |
Visit assigned friend once a month. |

Prayer Chain |
To provide a ministry of prayer. |

Volunteers for the Prayer Chain agree to receive a call for prayer, pass that call on to the next name on the list, and pray according to the request until further notice. |

Transportation |
Elderly non-drivers and residents of Luther Towers need transportation to medical appointments. |

|
|
Prepare emergency meals |
Helping congregational families in bereavement or need. |

|
|
Luther Towers |
To provide a more comfortable and varied life for the resident of Luther Towers. |
60 hours per year. |
Work in the coffee shop, gift shop, and craft shop; organize and host parties, outings and other social activities; visit shutins and welcome new residents; organize fund-raising events. |

Hilltop Neighborhood Center |
To provide study assistance to pre-teen children. |
6:30-8:00 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings when school is in session. |
