The food ministry of the church is supported by the Shepherd’s Garden. We currently have 7 4′ x 16′ beds that are tended by church member and friends. All produce is supplied to the food pantries in Wilmington supported by Lutheran Community Services. The garden began in 2017 as a Gold Award project for one of our Girl Scouts. The first year, with just 3 beds, we supplied 670 lbs of fresh produce to the pantry! We expanded in 2018 and added 4 more beds. We were able to increase the variety of vegetables and we supplied 775 lbs. We are looking toward a wonderful growing season for 2019. Volunteers (with or without green thumbs are always welcome). New for 2019! With the help of a generous grant from the DE/MD Synod Hunger Task Force and a gift from the Church Memorial Funds, we are adding a community garden area to the Shepherd’s Garden. Fifteen beds will be rented for the year. The church will supply the beds, soil, week block and water. We are happy to invite the community into this project and work together as stewards of our land. We will ask that 10% of produce harvested be donated to our food ministries.
