Music Program at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd

Worship is that time when our congregation comes together as one to offer praise to God, express our gratitude for grace and renew our resolve to walk together with Christ.  Psalm 100 tells us to make a joyful noise, not perfect or flawless, but joyful.  Our music program aims to uphold the best of our Christian heritage and promote the best of what is written in our time. There are numerous opportunities for sharing musical gifts.  Desire and commitment are more important than special training or expertise.  We have a place for singers and instrumentalists of all ages, talents and levels who wish to commit to our endeavor.

Good Shepherd Choir

The Good Shepherd Choir is for adults and teens interested in singing with us in worship services and can attend rehearsals.  The choir leads the congregational singing of hymns and liturgy and presents an anthem weekly at our late service during the program year.  Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 3 and Sundays at 12:15.

Memorial Handbell Ringers

This ensemble is led by Margaret Love and participates in our worship approximately once each month during the program season.  We have a 5-octave and a 2-octave set of Schumerich handbells in addition to a 4-octave set of Suzuki  handchimes which allows us to explore a wide variety of handbell materials.  Experience in reading music is helpful.  Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00.

Junior Handbells

This beginning group is led by Ed Brugel.  In this ensemble, the beginning ringer learns to become comfortable with music reading, with ringing handbells, and with performing in worship.  Their goal is to give ringers a solid
foundation in bell ringing which will allow them to be considered for participation in the Memorial Handbell Ringers. They will present prelude music in worship on a monthly basis.

Instrumental Ensemble

Our Instrumental Ensemble is an intergenerational group of players of wind instruments who assemble for special occasions and festival services to accompany our hymns and offer voluntaries before and/or after worship.  Rehearsals are set up to accommodate the needs of specific services.

Other Musical Opportunities
  • Good Shepherd enjoys the liturgy “Of the Lands and Seasons” and assembles a folk ensemble for those occasions when we use it in our worship.
  • During the summer season we enjoy a variety of vocal and instrumental solos and small ensembles. We are always eager to add names of new talent to our list.
